Every price is for the same thing: a regular 8oz flat white with dairy milk. Irish cafes almost never charge differently for takeaway, so we do not treat it as a separate price. Oat and other non-dairy milks usually do carry a surcharge, and that is recorded separately.
Cafes in both the Republic and Northern Ireland are tracked. Sterling prices are stored and shown as sterling by default, because that is what the cafe actually charges. Switch the toggle and they convert at the European Central Bank reference rate for that day, marked with ≈ so a derived figure is never mistaken for a menu price.
Prices come from customers reporting what they paid at the counter. Anyone can submit one, and every submission is checked before it is published. Nothing here is estimated or inferred.
We publish the median of recent reports, not the average, so one mistake moves nothing. A price that differs sharply from the last is held until a second person confirms it.
Ratings cover taste, texture and consistency. No score publishes below five ratings, and low-sample scores are weighted toward the national mean.
A cafe with no logged price is shown as exactly that, and a county publishes no median until fifteen of its cafes are mapped. We would rather display a gap than a guess.
